98% less stormwater runoff!
Two year, residential stormwater trial is a success
For two years, we ran a trial to look at how a stand-alone residential house could be modified so that 98% of stormwater remains on the lot (or is reused). And it worked!
How did we achieve less stormwater runoff?
It required a combination of downpipe diversions, water efficiency, rainwater tanks, internal reuse, leaky tanks, and active interventions linked to weather monitoring.
It was so successful that the neighbour next door thought the drains were blocked. Why did they think that? Because there was no overflow from the rainwater tanks and hence no water entering the gutter during rainy days.
What’s next?
We’re hoping to apply this to the next scale, a residential precinct. Stay tuned.
