What is Wave working on in Sydney?

Wave has been super busy in the past 12 months with a variety of projects in Sydney. Here’s a glimpse into some of the work we’ve been doing.

Sydney Water approved designer

We’re thrilled to announce that Wave has been approved to work with Sydney Water as part of their WSUD Design Panel. This marks an exciting opportunity for us to collaborate on water-sensitive urban design (WSUD) initiatives, especially as Sydney Water expands its focus on liveable cities and its role in shaping the Aerotropolis.

WSUD Standard Drawings

Wave has been engaged by a Sydney council to develop standard engineering drawings and guidance materials that enhance WSUD implementation. Our approach prioritizes clarity, scalability, and consistency, with a strong emphasis on soil media and plant selection.

We ask ourselves key questions throughout the process:

  • "Can this be built?"

  • "How will it be maintained?"

By blending technical precision with practical usability, we ensure that these materials are both robust and accessible, supporting widespread adoption of WSUD best practices.

Water Resilience Planning

In partnership with an Inner Sydney council, Wave is reimagining the resilience of local places and infrastructure through the lens of water values and usage. Our team is developing a Water Resilience Plan that applies:
Integrated Water Management (IWM) principles
Leading industry practices
NSW Government policy

Using a recognized industry framework, we’re assessing the Council’s water resilience maturity before designing tailored programs and schedules to enhance long-term resilience across operations and communities.

At Wave, our approach to water resilience extends beyond conventional thinking. We explore how all water sources can be leveraged to support both community life and council services, combining

Auditing of Raingarden Assets:

Wave is currently conducting a large-scale audit of 246 raingardens across Inner Sydney to assess their performance and condition. This project plays a crucial role in evaluating how these stormwater assets contribute to the Council’s pollution reduction targets for 2030.

Key project innovations include:
🚀 Comprehensive hydraulic conductivity testing to inform future planning
📸 Thermal imagery integration to enhance condition assessments
🚲 Bicycle transport for site visits, aligning with our zero-emissions commitment
