Wave is pleased to announce we are leading a consortium to explore the feasibility of neighbourhood batteries in Nillumbik Shire.
Clean Energy Nillumbik (a community advocacy group in Nillumbik, north east Melbourne), were successful in applying for a Neighbourhood Battery Initiative grant from the Department of Land, Water, Environment and Planning. Wave is the lead consultancy to deliver this feasibility study.
What is the value proposition and structure for a neighbourhood battery?
We are exploring exactly what the value proposition and structure is to the community for a neighbourhood battery in the Nillumbik region. The project will work through the:
community perspective
technical nature
location
look and feel
financial case
safety issues
distributor value
ownership options for a few batteries in this area of Victoria.
We are particularly keen to work with other like-minded organisations and share the learnings.
Transitioning to zero emissions
Batteries will play a key role in the transition a zero emissions economy and grid. There are almost 40,000 installation of home storage systems now in Australia, and neighbourhood batteries (also known as community or precinct batteries) will increasingly become the next big thing in suburbs, streets and neighbourhoods, and critical to enabling a just transition.
